Well hullo there. Just thought I’d check in and let y’all know that Angie and I will be taking a teeny little road trip in a couple of weeks. From Tacoma, Washington to our new home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The boxes are almost packed. The rooms are looking bare. We’re eating up old pantry items and drinking up old booze. On July 16 the movers come. We’ll see them off, get everything cleaned up, and spend our last night in Tacoma at the glorious Hotel Murano. On the 17th, we turn in our keys and shove off.
I’m going to try blogging from the road. Hopefully I won’t be a slacker. I’ll have my laptop and cloud-enabled iPhone so I’ll have no excuses other than stiff and/or sore joints from sitting in the car for long hours. Here’s a handy map of our intended route:
Day 1: Tacoma to Missoula, MT
Day 2: Missoula to Yellowstone Nat’l Park
Day 3: Yellowstone to Cody, WY
Day 4: Cody to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, ND
Day 5: North Dakota to St Joseph, MN
Days 6-9: In Minnesota
Day 10: Stillwater, MN to Davenport, IA
Day 11: Davenport to Chicago, IL
Day 12: Chicago to Nashville, TN
Day 13: Nashville to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, TN
Day 14: Smokies to Asheville, NC
Day 15: Asheville to Raleigh, NC
I’ll post the best photo we take each day along with a brief musing. As you can see, we’re trying to hit up a few National Parks. We saw Ken Burns’s documentary last year on the National Park system and were inspired. We’ve been lucky enough to visit the two great parks in Washington — Olympic and Mount Rainier — and are excited to see Yellowstone, Theodore Roosevelt, Mammoth Caves, and the Great Smoky Mountains. Along the way we’ll also get to visit friends and relations, and hopefully ave some time to get off the interstate a bit.
